What they say about themselves
Taken from the provider's own website. We have not verified the claims — the parent reviews below are the other half of the picture.
- Child Development Services (CDS) is an Intermediate Educational Unit under the Maine Department of Education providing early intervention for children from birth through age two and free preschool special education for ages three to five.
- A parent, doctor or caregiver can make a referral, and a parent can refer their own child without needing a doctor's referral or an existing diagnosis; Maine CDS accepts referrals online only.
- Children from birth to age three with a measurable developmental delay, or a diagnosed condition likely to cause one, generally qualify, and a free evaluation determines eligibility.
- Services are provided at little or no cost to families regardless of income or insurance, and once referred, the programme generally has 45 days to complete the evaluation and hold the first meeting.
- Maine Child Development Services can be reached at 1-800-262-2232.
